Saturday July 8th 2023 we will be going to the McHenry County Master Gardeners Garden Walk. Meet at the MCC demonstration garden at 9:00 am and pick up your tickets purchased online from the 1st Vice President. Garden walk is open from 9 to 4 rain or shine. Please carpool with other members.

Wednesday August 9th 2023 at 11:30 at The Community Foundation for McHenry County. Program will be Bring back the Pollinators by Carol Elkin Xerces Ambassador. Carol Elkins, University of Wisconsin Master Naturalist and University of Illinois Extension Master Gardener will introduce us to pollinator education. She will share information about the importance of our native pollinators, some of their primary threats, and what we can all do to support them in our landscapes

Wednesday September 13 2023 we will be traveling to Dented Gate Flower Farm in Woodstock Illinois. We will be given a tour of this family run flower farm. Tour will start at 10 am . There will be a U-Pick your own flowers at a cost of a dollar a stem or purchase a cute bucket that you can fill with as many flowers you can fit for $25 dollars. Owner told me you can get up to 30 stems in this bucket. You can also bring your own vase and they will arrange your cut flowers . Lunch is on your own. Woodstock square is about 4 miles away.
Wednesday October 11, 2023 at 11:30 AM, an exciting event will take place at The Community Foundation for McHenry County. This event is bound to embrace the spirit of community and togetherness, as club members will gather to make stunning decorations for the upcoming Christmas tree at the Train Depot in downtown Crystal Lake. Under the bright autumn sun, creativity will flourish, and the air will be filled with laughter .The club members will pour their hearts and talents into crafting unique and enchanting pieces that will bring joy to the entire community during the holiday season. The Train Depot, a historical gem nestled in the heart of Crystal Lake, will soon be transformed into a magical wonderland, emanating a sense of warmth, love, and festive cheer. This event not only aims to adorn the Christmas tree with beautiful decorations but also serves as a reminder of the power of unity and the importance of coming together as a community to spread happiness and create everlasting memories. So mark your calendars and join the club members on October 11th for a memorable day of creativity, camaraderie, and the opportunity to be a part of something truly special. Let the enchantment begin!

Wednesday November 8 2023 meeting will be at 11:30 At Nunda Township Hall. 3510 Bay Rd Crystal Lake IL.
Program will start after business meeting We will be working on the decorations for the Christmas tree that will be displayed at the train depot park in downtown Crystal Lake. Please let Diana know if you will be volunteering to help put the decorations on the tree. Tree must be decorated before the downtown Christmas parade that is held the day after Thanksgiving.

Wednesday February 14 2024 at 11:30 at The Community Foundation for McHenry County.. Program will be Home Compositing Made Simple by Dave Brooks . David is a professional naturalist who has given presentations on Illinois natural history and green landscaping to groups of all ages throughout the Chicago area since 1990. He is a popular speaker at garden clubs. In addition to programs he welcomes garden clubs to visit Spring Valley’s 135 acres throughout the year thru the Schaumburg Park District.
Many homeowners are deterred from composting, concerned about aesthetics, odors, potential pest problems, or flak from the neighbors. This program will dispel many of the common myths surrounding composting and present a variety of options for getting started, dealing with potential problems, and tips to help you begin recycling your yard and kitchen wastes and reap the rich rewards.

Doug Moore – Master Gardener
March 13 2024 at 11:30 at Bethany Lutheran Church 76 W. Crystal Lake Ave. Master Gardeners Doug Moore and Ann Min will be presenting winter seed sowing. Doug Moore is a McHenry County Extension Master Gardener 2019. Garden Volunteer Liaison for Cary Park District at Hoffman Park Give Back Garden since 2018. Garden volunteer at Nunda Garden since 2019. My gardening passion was inspired by my father and several close neighbors during my childhood. Ann Min is a retired science and math teacher. she earned her Master Gardener certification in 2017 and has been teaching for the extension ever since. My love are perennial plants which is why I refer to my self as the lazy gardener!
Wednesday April 10 2024 at 11:30 at the Dole Mansion 401 Country Club Rd Crystal Lake . Program will be Leslie Goddard presents Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring. More info will be posted on Facebook. This will be a private event by invitation only.

Wednesday May 8 2024 at 11:30 at The Community Foundation for McHenry County. Program will be Piet Oudolf- Designer Profile by Tami Block. Tamara began her professional life as an academic. She has a BA and MA in Advertising and a PhD in Mass Media from Michigan State University. She taught graduate-level courses at Northwestern University for 8 years. Tamara’s gardening interest began early—her grandmother was a Garden Club President and flower judge, and she remembers helping her mother with presentation boards at club meetings. She is longtime member of the Garden Guild of Highland Park.
Piet Oudolf is the leader of the New Perennial Movement in naturalistic garden design. He is the designer behind the Lurie Garden in Millennium Park, Chicago.
